The Trumpet Shall Sound - Maurice André

Between 1965 and 1977, Maurice André made several recordings on the German label Deutsche Grammophone (DG). For a very long time these excellent recordings have been unavailable. When André celebrated his 70th anniversary in 2003 (he was born in Alés, May 21, 1933), DG decided to reissue these recordings on CD.

The box with 2 CDs contains145 min. of music from four LPs that DG recorded with André : Telemann, Handel, Haydn, Richter, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Viviani, Torelli, Stölzel.

Franz Carss sings the bass aria, "The Trumpet Shall Sound", from the Messiah by Hande. This is also used as the title for the whole collection.

In the CD booklet, you will find photos of André and other musicians, and an up-to-date article by the trumpet expert Edward Tarr. Here is a short quote from Tarr's text:

What is it that constitutes Maurice André's artistry? The words that experts generally use to describe him - great endurance, precise attack, brilliant technique and an outstanding top - do not tell the whole story. Maurice André has an irresistible charisma, a stage presence that cast its spell on his listener as soon as he sets foot on the concert platform. In short he is an exceptional artist. These two CDs reveal him at the very peak of his abilities.

Absolutely recommended!
