One of the things not covered here is what I call "fright factor" which
involves multiple leger lines.
If you think of the upper register as high notes, then they become:
high notes=difficult
I'll pose a question to ponder....
What if your entire frame of reference is in the staff? For example:
If you have to play a G in the staff you don't even think about it.
It's a no-brainer. But then you see 4 leger lines above the staff and
your brain kicks in and says "Oh #(@)!!!!. What if you put that Dubba G
in the staff and just make it sound 2 octaves higher? That's what I do.
My entire frame of reference is in the staff. I do the same for the
lower register as well. Anything below the staff I look at as written
in the staff. It just sounds an octave lower.
